Coax D-Sub hebben als de aan D-Sub beide rijen in een standaard dichtheid connector vervangen door een coaxiale contact dat nemen ongeveer even groot als de twee rijen signaalcontacten. Coax D-Sub precies dezelfde grootte als de standaard dichtheid connector maar in plaats van voorbeeld 9 posities van signaalpennen heeft 2 vermogenscontacten, of in plaats van 37 posities van signalen heeft 8 coax contacten.
De impedantie van de coaxiale contacten 50Ω of 75Ω

Coax D-Sub met gemengde Layout mixen zowel coax contacten signaalcontacten in dezelfde connector. Bijvoorbeeld even groot als 15 positie Standard Density D-Sub je wat we een 7W2, wat betekent dat er 7 contacten waarbij 2 daarvan coaxiaal contacten, wat betekent dat er 5 signaalcontacten bellen, zodat 5 signalen en 2 coaxiaal.
